Took a drive up through Julian on Sunday 10/4 to do some pumpkin picking with the family. Looks like the fall colors have started. Didn’t get any pictures because sometimes its just to stressful with the kids. In addition, along Wynola Rd and Farmer’s Rd just Northeast of the town of Julian where a lot of the color is concentrated you are driving very narrow country roads with fenced private property on both sides. There is no place to park your car. There is a good amount of trees changing within the town of Julian and one could park there and walk just past the restaurants and shops to the hillside on the southern side which was showing some nice yellowish to light green color.
I know Floris and Steve both expressed interest in heading to the Julian area for some photographing. I will be heading back up there on October 18th in the hopes to get some photographs of the changing leaves. Along with the town of Julian I might check out Steve’s earlier suggestion and drive North up the 78 to the Banner area especially where it intersects with Wynola Rd. Maybe there will be some areas to park on the side of the road.
The Julian Chamber of Commerce nor I can guarantee that the color will still be around in two weeks. However, the color this past weekend looked to be in it’s beginning stages, so hopefully it will still be there come 10/18. If you guys are up for going, meeting up, etc. let me know. What’s the best time of day and light to shoot fall color? Feel free to go up earlier. I think you should see some nice color this weekend. That’s the update for now.
Thanks for the update Dave! I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it down there this year since I'm exceptionally busy this month, but keep us posted.

Hmm, I might be able to make it down that day but not completely sure yet. The sycamores are too good to miss. I wonder if they are changing around these parts yet.

Julian is a small mtn. town in San Diego County east of Escondido.

Chris,
It's an old gold mining town in North San Diego county, known now for it's fine apples and of course fresh apple pie. But it is in transitional Live Oak, chaparral and Conifier country being nestled in the Penisular range, that snakes all the way down Baja to Cabo by the way. I've been there once a long time ago to eat on the way home from mineral prospecting, but I would love to return with my camera soon.
