It all came right today, tide, wind, light and the local mother and cub. Wish it was as easy as this all the time, but I guess that wouldn't be half as much fun.

Techs
Canon 30D, 500 f4, 1/160 f8 iso 200
very slight crop from left and bottom to reduce mushy seaweed.

The mush works nicely in this composition, and I love the way the otter is staring straight at you.

Great stuff Bob - that eye level view works really well and it's very unusual to get an otter with a clean background. I hope you didn't have to lie in rotting seaweed to get this - that stuff really honks!

A fine portrait, just enough detail in the foreground to convey the habitat

lovely image, may have to head north at some point to get some otter shots, Oxfordshire seems rather lacking in sightings.

I agree with all the comments - superb shot. I too like the clean background - very unusual. He actually looks like he is playing with you.
