MY Oxbow Bend Pano
Imagine my surprise when I sat down in front of the computer tonight, ready to post a panorama I shot at Oxbow Bend last weekend, and saw Guy Schmickle's post titled "Oxbow Bend pano" which featured a better panorama than mine. Not cool (but great work Guy)! I'm a go-down-with-the-ship kind of guy though, so here's my pano from last Saturday morning in the Tetons. I managed to nudge my way through the tripod-toting crowd along the banks of the Snake River and snap off a few shots. This is a stitch of 15 vertical photos from my Sony a900 and Sigma 100-300 f4 @ 200mm f8. At an uninterpolated 240 dpi, it would make a sharp 24' x 127" print, which I would love to make if only I had a bare 2 x 10 foot section of wall in my house. Here's a link to a larger version: http://www.brettdeacon.com/photo.php?id=514&gallery=GrandTetons. As Guy noted, Oxbow Bend had probably the best color in the entire park which probably accounted for the mass of photographers there as opposed to the usual suspects like the Snake River Overlook (where all the cottonwoods had already lost their leaves).

Here's another from the same spot on Thursday evening. The color version is nice but I prefer this one in B&W. Shot with my Sony a900 and Minolta 100mm macro lens @ f8.

Both are very nice. That BW is just intense! Love the clouds and the light coming through.

That pano is amazing!!! Tons of detail, great comp and colors. Wow!
The B&W one is incredibly dramatic. Thanks for sharing these.

Hey...I wouldn't say that mine is better by any stretch! It's just different. This is a fantastic pano that would awesome to print as large as you can print it! I absolutely love that second shot as well. That was quite the evening with god beams being sprayed in all directions. I was at the Snake River Overlook while you shot this so I'll have to see what I got from there. Excellent work!

They both look stunning to me! Those colours are intense.

Did anyone get wet in all the jostling for position along the river bank?!

Both are magnificent.

Thanks everyone. Guy, I'd love to see if you got anything special when the god beams were out on Thursday. I took an HDR pano from this spot with 7 vertical images, each one exposed 3 times at +/- 2 EV, from this same spot but haven't processed it yet. Stephen, everyone seemed to be getting along when I was there but a fellow photog told me that a fistfight broke out between 2 guys at Oxbow Bend last year! The nice thing is that, like the Maroon Bells, you can get a good shot from most anywhere and nobody is really in your way unless you're trying to capture the shoreline.

Brent, this is awesome. I went to see Guy's shot after you mention you liked his better, but I'll have to say this is my favorite. He definitely has the clouds, but Moran is partially blocked due to them too. In your shot, I love the steam coming off the river, the light and the partial reflection too. The grass is always greener I guess...

I wish I would have made the trip up there this year instead of staying in CO and these two pano's are making me kick myself even more. I would have had to make the trip early last week, so Oxbow probably would have been a before peak, but nice nonetheless.

I'd add an addition to the house for a big enough wall

Fantastic panorama
There ought to be a way to post a decent size panorama on this site. I know that it takes up
hard disk space, but panorama shooters ought to at least have the option for a premium fee
to post decent size panoramas.

Killer shots Brett. The pano is very impressive, but the b/w is something special.

Forget work, I'm off to process my own stuff. Inspiring stuff guys.

Wow! Your pano is also fantastic. But that B&W is positively killer!!

Ya I'd be pretty upset with that image too!

Are you kiddin, that's amazing. Tell you what, you can make your 24' x 127" print and hang it on my wall. I have plenty of room. And you can come look at it anytime you want.

I'm completely sold on that b&w shot.
Excellent conversion and stunning light!

marvelous!!!!! Both are great in their own way but the bw is uniquely good.

Wow! Both are great. I like the pano for the color and details that your capture, and the light in the B/W is fantastic. Great stuff!

Dude, that pano is freaking awesome... and the light on the BW rocks!

Fantastic pano and BW, it looks like you caught it at its peak

These are fantastic, Brett! I had to cancel my Teton trip due to work. These images make that even more painful than it already was.

simply breathtaking, both of them. great job Brett.

Stunning shot, Brett! :toast:

The pano is different enough from Guy's that it stands on it's own, so don't worry about that. It's a great pano, too! Both of you have amazing captures of this place. And the b&w is fantastic! The light puts it over the top good.

As others have said, you have some great shots here. The sky in the B&W is just fantastic. I would be thrilled to print that one out and put it on the wall. :toast:

Outstanding Pano Brett! And the B&W is something special too. :toast:

Very nice Brett. It was a nice cold morning. Looks like you were at the waters edge right below me. I too wished we'd had just a few clouds but the colors were great. Not going to complain one bit. Did you do any panos of the grove just to the East (just before the parking lot)?

That panoramic is probably one of the best of this area. Superbly done!

Be grateful you got this when you did. I was at Oxbow just a few days after you and the color was all gone. It had snowed two days previous, and I guess the cold weather zapped the color. I was bummed after seeing what I missed just a couple of days earlier. Great shot!

:toast: Fantastic!!
