Last October 7 Erik posted an image showing the fall colors from the glacier gorge area in RMNP. I like it and decided to go back this year and see if I could capture a similar scene. As it worked out, the storms forced me to go out a week earlier and so things were not going to be exactly the same. The morning was breezy and waves of snow/rain were starting to move off the divide as the sun rose above the eastern horizon clouds. After standing around for half and hour in the cool morning (and braving the wind and a little rain) the clouds dissipated. With the sun shinning through I was able capture this image. This is a 3 panel stitch that I cropped in a little from the RHS to get a 2/3 print proportion.
I can see your shot here, Steven. It's a good shot with nice color. It's amazing how early the light here can get harsh. The shadows are blocked and this was right after sunrise? The dark shadows don't bother me with this one though, as it lends a little more drama to it.
Thanks for saying that you can see the image Morris. I thought there was something wrong with my methodology somewhere, but I couldn't see it.
The image is about half an hour to 45 minutes after sunrise - just like Erik's image. There were some clouds on the eastern horizon and then the wind and rain event that dissipated so I couldn't shoot earlier. I do agree that the shadows on the web image look very dark. Guess I need to lighten them up some more.
