Perfect Porcelain
Now there's been some rain at last then fungi season will be well and truly on us soon - but I managed to find some perfect Porcelain fungus last week in the lighting conditions that allowed me to take a series of B&W images that I've had in my mind for a few seasons now but never managed to get everything fall in place for me.

Fantastic image Mark.

Love the composition and the detail is outstanding. Works very well as a black and white.

Hi Mark,

Outstanding job. Not very easy to come up with something different but you did.

Love it.

Absolutely beautiful image. If it were mine I'd crop the top to get rid of the top right dead space which I find distracting, and which I think will throw more emphasis on the relationship between the lower left stalks and gills which are fantastic. This is a really splendidly lit and composed piece of fungal art. Superb!

I think this is just lovely and possibly the best fungi image I have ever seen.

Cheers

Great stuff, Mark. The b&w works well with this very graphic subject matter. Probably feel similar to John Mac about the 'dead space' but I would reduce the amount instead of losing it all together. Either way, really effective images for the next edit?

Cheers,
Chris

Absolutely beautiful work of art. Re the empty space, my choice would be to leave about half of it from the top. I hope this is printed and hanging on a wall!

I've been away most tof the time since I posted this and am blown away by the response - thanks to all your kind words. I've always enjoyed photographing fungi and looking for more than just record shots so it was a real delight as this one came together as i'd imagined it: rest assured there's plenty of composition variants!!
