CANP GROUP PHOTO - Oct. 4, 2009
It was truly a great get together again this year in the eastern sierras. As a co-moderator here at CANP I can only say both last year and again this year have brought together some of the best outdoor photographers from many locals throughout our fine state of California.

Although the weather was a bit rough at times, and the aspens did not perform up to many of our expectations, I know numerous photo opportunities were still out there and many folks took high advantage of the time spent in the field.

From the three NPN/CANP moderators who made the trek again, which included; Lon, Preston, & myself, thank you to all of the CANP members who participated this year. We fully understand that many could not be there for a variety of reasons & other commitments, and we surely hope you will be able to participate sometime in the future.

The group photo was taken with a majority of the CANP folks who were in the area on October 4th, but a few others mostly because of bad weather could not be there at the Silver Lakes picnic area during the designated time. They included; Michael Gordon, Reno DiTullio, Michael Reynolds, Rudy Ruberti, and Rowland Burkert. I apologize if I missed any other names of those who might not have been there at that time because of the bad weather or other reasons.

Below is a list of the folks who did make the group photo, and once again, I would apologize ahead of time if I have missed anyone or missed spelled any names as well. A special thank you to Lon's wife JoAnn for stepping in to help out with the group photo taken with my small Nikon P/S camera.

Paul, thanks for your efforts to prepare and post this great shot of our group!

What a day it was! We all dodged, or got caught by snow flurries, battled the wind and the cold, and as luck would have it, we had nice sunshine for our gathering at Silver Lake!

It was indeed a pleasure to renew old acquaintances, and meet new friends. I deeply appreciate all of you for making it such a wonderful day!

I truly appreciate Paul's and Lon's leadsership and their help coordinating our second, and hopefully, annual NPN/CANP Sierra gathering!

If there are any of you who attended and are not pictured in the group photo, please let us know. Thanks.

Again, many thanks to all of you who made this day a special one! :toast:

Wow, great photo and turn out Paul!

My son and I had a great time meeting everyone and viewing the portfolios which various folks brought out even in the light snow!

All and all it was a great trip and I know there were a lot of logistics in the preparation. So a big Thank You to the moderators for organizing this event! And also a thank you to all those who showed up even when it meant long drives from SoCal, across the passes, etc...

I think some Bay Area folks had to actually drive to Reno to get home Sunday because of the snow and passes being closed. Monday was sunny all day. So after doing some shooting we headed over to the Tioga Pass only to find it was still closed. Then after stopping in the Whoa Nellie Deli to speak with a highway patrol officer I saw Lon and Preston hanging out in the parking lot - small world! A few minutes later ~ 1:30 PM the pass was opened. So we hit the road.

Thanks for posting Paul! Great group photo. My wife must have picked up a few tips from me!

To me, with the green aspens and bright sunshine, you would think this picture was taken in August! And all the jackets, hats and even gloves just don't seem like them belong - but of course we know better that this was between snow flurries... :-)

It was great seeing some old friends and meeting and making new ones. I was pretty surprised at such a big turnout considering the weather conditions. Paul, Preston and I came real close to just hanging out at the Mobile Station - sure glad we decided to see if anyone was at Silver Lake.

Despite the lack of color, I managed to expose a few sheets of film and actually I think the drama of Sunday was perhaps the best day. Nothing like some blowing snow to spice up an autumn image.

Great meeting everyone and I look forward to seeing more images from the trip. You probably won't see any from me until next week. darn film stuff.

Hi everybody!

It was truly an awesome gathering on the Silver Lake shore after the wind-storm, snowing, windy-sunshine weather roller-coaster in the Mono Lake area. Cristina and I had a really great time meeting you all and we want to thank you for the warm welcome among the CANP. The meeting was an excellent learning opportunity for us, since this is just our second trip in the area. We were impressed by the experience you guys have on scouting every hidden corner of the Sierras in search for marvelous sights. As we were following the portfolio presentations of our new acquaintances Preston, Paul, Chris, Mike and Lon, we were amazed by the combination of will to explore, patience to capture the perfect moment, artistic expression and the variety of photo techniques that yield such unique pictures. It was hard to remember so many places of hidden natural beauty, canyons, turns of the roads, hiking trails, creeks, lakes, glaciers, forests, but we tried to memorize as many as possible. We explored some of them during the next few days and we were grateful for what we learned from the CANP members, about the sightseeing spots. We realized that a lifetime is not enough to capture all the beauties the Sierras have to offer. At the same time, we felt very fortunate to participate on the CANP meeting, to get a glimpse of the tremendous possibilities for artistic expression and to get to know such a wonderful group of people willing to share their experience. Thank you for your hospitality!

Greetings all,

Thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone and now I have the photo to fill in the gaps in my senior moments. The portfolio sharing was special as I got to see some truly awesome photos. I can really appreciate those of us who still capture images on film. Would that be old school? Now as the images keep rolling into the forum I feel like I went where ever any of the others went. I think I'm a member of a special group of very talented folks, all willing to share and learn together. I am so glad I listened to those guys I met at Tunnel View and remembered nature photographers.net
