Sturgeon River
This shot was taken last week in the Canyon Falls area just south of Alberta, MI. The sun was out when I left the parking area but by the time this was taken it started raining hard so I cut my hike short.

I managed to get some rain on my telephoto lens. Seems to be working fine but any moisture will cause problems this winter. If anyone has any suggestions for removing moisture from a lens I would be happy to hear them.

Comments welcome.

Very nice perspective here, Phil. Excellent composition. I was there around a week ago myself. Were you up on the bluff beyond where the trail ends (past the fence), or were you within the falls viewing area? I don't remember being able to see as far down the river as your shot indicates. I never saw the last bend in the river, which really adds to the scene.

Really nice composition and light, Phil. Boy, do you get around!
In regards to your question; unless the lens was dunked under water for a considerable amount of time you should be fine. I fell into the Vermillion river this spring, dunking my D200 w/105 macro attached. Immediately removed CF card and batteries, and hiked back to my truck with a freshly dislocated shoulder and torn rotator cuff, removed lens, placing both body(camera) and lens on dashboard in sunlight and drove home(2 hrs) with window breeze. Got home and wrote in to General Discussion Forum, heeded advice and put both into oven @ about 120 degrees for 8 hours. Both work GREAT. All modes work, and no motor noise or such.
I also shoot high school football and I've found that moisture on the barrel or glass is merely an inconvenience that needs to wiped dry and allowed to 'breathe' so as to prevent mold/mildew.
I hope that eases your fear and wish you the best.

This was shot just to the right of Canyon falls. There is barrier up against the stone but the trail goes up to the bluff on the right side of the photo. This is where I stopped because of the rain.

I'm heading up to Munising on Sunday into what appears to be a snowstorm.

Bruce
Thanks for easing my fear about moisture.

Nice shot. Another place would like to spend some time watching the water run past.
