Interesting looking specimen David. I would look up my insect book but am knackered having got up at 4.30am for the rut (which didn't happen) We were just talking about you today and wondering if all the insects had abandoned your garden. Nice to see you back.

Hi David,
I'd go with the immigrant Silver Y (one of those say what you see species! lol), been a lot around this year, flies both day and night. Great detail as per usual, but would have liked more room below and left personally.
Cheers,
Lewis.

Thanks Lewis for the ID, and comments, I like 'em BIF
:
Sorry about the rut, Maggie. Very unreliable us males, so I have been led to understand, though not from personal experience I hasten to add.
Thank you for thinking about me, unfortunately I've been on quite a few hospital appointments to find out what has been ailing me of late. Going in tomorrow 7.30am to have an operation to laser an, and I quote, 'enormous kidney stone' I hope to be out Tuesday
with a bit of luck. and back to photography, etc.

Good luck with the op David. I think I would prefer it removed by laser. I had one years ago and passed it. Sorry too much information I know The pain was excruciating though. Look forward to seeing more of your pictures soon

a nicely detailed shot David and definitely a Silver Y. I was also wondering where you'd got to. I hope the laser surgery goes well and you're back on your feet in no time.
