A Young Volcano Story
The Mono Craters are the youngest mountain range in North America. The Panum Crater only errupted 600 years ago. I wanted to catch a view that told a story about the volcanic activity here. I would of preferred a little more dominance in the craters since they are an important piece of background.

Wow Steve, this one is really cool. I'm liking the fractured look along with the rabbit brush in the fore and mid ground. The light is also very interesting - some sun some shade. And you got some really nice clouds for this as well. They are kinda bouncing of the mtns. There are many layers which give it depth and make for an interesting image.

Nice Steve,

Is it my imagination or are we seeing more images posted that were taken during the "bad light" hours. I'm assuming this was taken at the fissures, the cracks leads right to your subject though it doesn't dominate the comp leads there, and there's much to see as your eyes moves there.

Cool view Steve. I've always wondered what the Mono Craters looked like.

Great photo! I especially like the composition with the horizon line perfectly placed.

I would not go walking around up here in the dark, that's for sure. There is just a bunch of sagebrush and then a crack in the ground.

This is really nice, Steve. You lined everything up very well here. Your eye travels up from the FG brush, the fissure, the craters and then clouds very easily.

I like this one a lot. Considering the bright light you retained nice detail deep in the fissure. Totally cool that you guys came across this spot during your Mono adventure. .

Woah.. that's awesome! I'm gonna have to check this stuff out one of these days, looks like fun! Did you go down in there? Or is this the one you alluded to in your ESS post? That one didn't look as deep/dark?

I'm amazed at the detail you were able to preserve at this time of day with this ambitious composition. Lots of interest here, top to bottom. I might even out the polarizer effect in the sky, but other than that this looks very nice to me.

Thanks all,

Floris, some aren't safe so and this one was one of them. I purposely let the bottom go black to fool the viewer. There was a stack of boulders that were passable but nobody knew I was in there at the time. I have a harness but have minimal bouldering skills so I climbed around a few. The one in ESS is a different one.
