I lived in Phoenix/Scottsdale for 18 years. I should know when the desert wildflowers bloom but apparently I have purged that information from my teeny tiny little brain. I'm thinking February/March. Does that sound about right? Specifically, I'm interested in the Supes and the Picacho Peak area.

Yup, late Feb thru early April in most of southern AZ. Picacho is usually best in early March.

Bret, on a good rain year, you can find great wildflowers in Saguaro, Picacho, Bartlett Lake, Catalina State Park, Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park and in the surrounding Phoenix valley. Usual bloom times vary, but most years, the peak season is late February-early April.
Also, Organ Pipe National Monument is a fantastic location as well, but given its proximity to the border, camping is not advised outside of designated spots due to the very dangerous exposure of criminal/illegal activity in that area.

Thanks for your replies, Bryan & Chuck. Sounds like my memory isn't too far off. We're trying to plan a trip to the Phoenix area for wildflowers next year and this helps a lot.

Hey Brett, my daughter lives in the south suburbs of Phoenix and I usually make a pilgrimage there every March for spring training. The results from year to year are a little spotty but the time frame the others have supplied sem pretty accurate.
