Richland Creek Wilderness Area
Just a quick post here before I head off to work. This past weekend I shot pretty much non-stop due to the incredible conditions we had. And the weather man said partly cloudy for Saturday and Sunday - what a bunch of baloney!

I do believe the best color in the Richland Creek area will be this week, which is why I will be posting a comment in the Fall Gathering thread about thoughts on moving the gathering location south - maybe Petit Jean?

Beautiful, Bill. I like the flow of the water with the great fall colors.

We were at Richland at the end of our journey this weekend too and I think you are right. The color is close to being peak. I love the image and the show of colors is beautiful!

Great shot! I really like how you composed the foreground.

Bill-Everyone,
I am heading that way late tonight. Am I correct in that the road from Falling Water Creek to Richland Campground is closed.

Is the Richland Campground closed?

What would be the closest campground to that area that would be open?

Great composition on this shot Bill.

Bob, both the campground and road are still closed. I'd try Fairview for a place to camp. It's located just off the highway between Lurton and Pelsor. Watch for signs.

Very nice colors. The image is very dense with detail.

just out of curiosity where exactly is this. Just wondering what part of the wilderness you were in.

Yep, that was me, Jon. Glad to be of help.

Matthew, this was up Falling Water Creek from the campground. There is a lot of neat stuff up there that is hardly ever seen.

Yea I went up falling water a little ways years ago, I may have actually ran into you then but I'm not sure.

Jon I guess you met a couple people this weekend.

Great color and light here Bill. You have a wonderful eye for composing forest scenes.

I drove to the RC campground last night and thought the color was coming along nicely too. I was going to hike to twin falls this morning but with the 2" of rain this morning decided to bail until later this week. Hopefully things will calm down by Thursday when I can get back down.

I'm pretty sure it will be well past peak by the 23rd as Falling Water road was pretty close to peak this morning with a definite color change over the last 24 hours. The FW falls had an incredible amount of water flowing as of 11am this morning, way to much to photograph (IMO).

Have you gotten any reports of the conditions in Petit Jean? Last year it seemed like everything in the state peaked within a few days.

Thanks, Ed. I'm finally beginning to see what kind of work is most appealing, and to develop my own style. Seems like I'm attracted to these types of scenes.

Mike Hall should have a report on PJ soon...just keep checking the update at the top.

Heading to PJ early in the AM. I'll ASAP an update. Just returned a few minutes ago from Memphis and there is spotty colors along I-40. The cyprus trees are really turning fast. Lake Conway may be a good spot this weekend, but I hope to be in the Ozarks Saturday afternoon.

Great feel to this one, Bill.

Matt and I made a quick trip to Petit Jean State Park today. It is just now getting some good pockets of color. A week from now should be near or at full color. Their will be several people going up to Richland this weekend and that report will determine if we need to move the gathering south to Petit Jean. Here are my snapshots from this morning. http://www.pbase.com/mikehall/petit_jean_state_park
