Millions of years after its formation, the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the gift of the park to the city.
This coming Saturday, October 17, at 9am, the 100-year celebration will begin with a Parade to the Park from Visitor & Nature Center parking lot.
At 10 am, the Garden’s Perkins plaque will be re-dedicated. All participants will be invited to sign a ‘new’ proclamation, celebrating the gift of the Garden – “from the past to the present for the future!”
All ‘categories’ of Park visitors are invited – hikers, bikers, rock climbers, bird watchers, history revelers – all groups and individuals who celebrate the Garden. Photographers are an especially important group in the 100-year history of the park. I've been asked by the Visitor Center staff to issue this special invitation to photographers to join us in the parade and re-dedication ceremony.
For more information, contact the Visitor Center at 719-634-6666. I hope to see you there!

If you are a citizen of Colorado Springs, and would like to continue to enjoy the parks (such as Garden of the Gods), I would strongly suggest you vote for ballot measure 2C. Without it, the City is facing severe budget cuts (again) which will include decimation of the City Parks department (and elimination of the transit system and reduction in Police and Fire staff). Last year, the infrastructure of the city was decimated, but the positions eliminated go largely unseen by the citizens. This year, there is no place left to cut that citizens will not immediately notice.
My grandparents took me to the Garden of the Gods when I was around 13. We lived in Memphis at the time. I always remembered that trip but for years I did not know where the Garden actually was. This past August we went on a 3,000+ miles motorcycle ride through several states and we were on our way to Pueblo, CO when I saw a sign advertising the Garden. I asked those riding with me if we could make the detour. I am so glad we did. It was beautiful all those years ago and still so peaceful and serene this visit. We ended up staying right in town there and got up early the next morning to be at the Garden before sunrise. I took some sunrise shots but the best thing was rekindling the memory of the trip with my grandparents. Granddad just passed away on Sept 20th, two days before his 90th birthday.
