Near tragedy
Whilst out at a favourite location I noticed a heron dive towards something on the surface of the lake. Closer inspection revealed a cormorant doing a very weak 'backstroke' in a small circle. I took a couple of pictures of what I considered to be a dying bird which would occasionally flap frantically. After one particularly strong bout of flapping it suddenly righted itself and swam off at a fair old lick. It was only then that I could see a length of fishing line dangling from its beak.
It swam off way up the lake and I didn't get to see what eventually became of it. This is on a local reserve and I have no idea how long the unfortunate creature had been caught up.
Not for critique but more of interest.

An upsetting incident Robert. I do hope it survives.

Used to be a fisherman, but never left line lying around. Very upsetting to see and hear your tale. Great shot.

A very nice image Robert, but a sad story behind it. Hope he gets on ok.
