Spent yesterday morning up above the clouds on Rampart Range Rd., then dropped down into the weather to Garden of the Gods where the road dumps out near Balanced Rock. The rime ice in this pic wasn't nearly as thick as the rime ice down in the clouds where the landscape had spent the previous two or three days having wave after wave of moisture-laden freezing fog cake on layer after layer of the white stuff. Once I got down to the Garden, the roads were nearly impassable, until I got to the one-way stretch leading to the main parking lot. As I headed up, a few vehicles were coming down the road the wrong way, one of them slideways. I pulled over to let them by, and the chick in the first vehicle said the roads were so iced over that I wouldn't make it up the hill. Advice heeded. I backed down to the "T" intersection to head out the main entrance, and one car was standing idle in the road, front wheels spinning uselessly on the thick carpet of ice on the road. Another was stranded at the low point on the main entrance road, unable to make the hill in either direction. Nearly impassable quickly became literally impassable. IMO, the park should've been closed, or at least the east entrance.

Very nice! Like others have stated, I'm not ready for that stuff yet. It was nice to be sitting alongside the Animas River in Durango this evening (in short sleeves) to watch/photograph the fly fisherman doing their thing. Hopefully, scenes like the one above won't come to southwest CO for a while yet. Brrrr!

Way cool capture... pun intended! I figured you were up on RRR. Would have run into you if I wasn't getting over the crud. Sounds like GOG was dicey to say the least.

Sweet image Todd! I bet it was nice when that sun finally hit you.
Nice image! And congrats for not going Chevy Chase and taking out Balanced Rock on your way through the park. Sounds like a scary trip!

Very cool, Todd! I've been watching the fog from above (nice and clear at my house in Divide). The (THE) flu has been keeping me down or I might have run in to you on RRR. Your sunrise shot captured what I knew it must look like up there.

Amazing shot!! Where are the rest?? I know you must have bagged some other goodies with conditions like those.

I thought your old bones had seized up and you were unable to get out of your rocking chair since we had no pictures lately.

Wow, that's insane! I'm glad you mentioned how messed up the roads were cause if i didnt have to work through all that gorgeous weather i probably would have gone out in it and got myself killed!
