Perhaps the last "family hike" along the Pacific Crest Trail, this time with three generations of Fullerton along for the trip. Today there will likely be snow on the ground. My father and I hauled plenty of photo gear with us while our wives and kids were content with trail bars and gummy worms. I'll go back up on my own, with snowshoes and proper gear, sometime during November.

Some of you may have heard about the massive landslide in that area. Well, we arrived just after it happened and were advised by the rangers not to proceed down the opposite side of the pass. We wouldn't realize just how serious it was until we saw the arial photos on the news. The road is gone and the river has been rerouted. I don't expect to see repairs underway this year.

Good times!

Jamie,
Sounds like a heck of a slide. As for the photo, I would crop off the ice and all the way up to where you can see the lake bottom. Not a bad shot but I just don't feel it. Maybe it's the harsh lighting or the sky. I do like the way the mountain is framed by the trees.

The fg is a distraction, imo; I like the idea of a crop up to the waterline on the right. Crystal clear light without haze makes it look chilly and a bit stark. Not a nit, just an observation of the feeling the image gives me. I wish I had one like this where the Tatoosh Range was so clearly defined. Nice.
