Shot this with Rudy and Mat. Rudy was nice enough to show us around here. I ended up walking up the hill through the brush to shoot what was behind me and to the right but of course this surprise was waiting for us. The moon was just off to the left behind the mountain side. Tried a few shots to catch a windless moment but just said screw it and went with it. I processed this and didn't like it for a few days but it's growing on me.

Hey Steve, I've been looking at the comps I have from this spot too and wondering if/how to process them. I think your approach is probably the way to go. I really like the detail you pulled out of the mountains on the other side Crowley Lake, and I think you picked the optimum FG available. (Adding depth without being cluttered.) It's debatable but I think I would back off the saturation.
Now that I look back at my images from there, I think I must have been a little delirious from the cold. I was bracketing shots but completely switching compositions in the middle of the set. Fun stuff!

Is this Mcgee Creek? I like the back shot Steve, motion blur in the fg doesn't bother me, but with the low light I know your shutter speed was pretty slow, and under the conditions you never would have had a long enough calm moment. It's definitely a "puts me there" image, and some purists may want everything tack sharp, but guess what we don't photograph in a vacuum. So you dealt with it, quite well I might add. Vacuums are bad something about our blood boiling into a froth and agonizing death an ignominous end to say the least.

I like the all the converging lines and particularly the mirrored pyramid shapes created by the canyon ridgelines and aspen tops. Too bad about the wind. Nothing more aggravating than relentless wind when you don't want it.
The view down that canyon is great Steve, love the colors out there. Great spot for a sunset in the eastern sierra! When it's windy... go with the wind a little more blur might not have been bad either!

I always like the view back across the valley at sunset, when the earths shadow is making its appearance. Great colors here. I've only process a couple of shots from that hike so far.
