With tons of new stuff- WOW. This baby has an 18 Meg -C- sized sensor and 2 of the Digic 4 porcessors. The usable ISO goes to the moon (12800) and the 8FPS is great for my sports and nature photography.
Theres a new cross type 19 point AF with an improved
sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 Image Processors. It alos has a new cross-type 19-point AF system with great AI Servo II . The AF does subject tracking and you can select the AF area. It still works fairly well - if you dont have the initial area properly selected. It takes a little practice to get things dialed in. It seems to do a great job of sharp focus no matter the situation. The 7D has a new viewfinder, with new technology, that provides 100% and displays selected AF modes as well as a spot metering circle and grid lines in the viewfinder. More to learn.............or get use to - if you will.
I'm going to give the video a go this weekend, as thats suppose to be great too - even better and easier to operate that on the 5D Mk II.
I hooked this up with my new 200mm F/2 IS- (the little white whale)... now its a 320mm... and the focusing speed and tracking ability are better, and faster than my 400 2/8 IS and the 500 f/4 IS This new body is truely amazing.
Will keep you posted on the video stuff in a few days. I cant believe all the stuff this little guy will do. A 'tip' of the hat to the folks at Canon

My 7D is on order. I should receive it in 2-3 weeks. It is a winner by all accounts!

How is the noise at higher (400+) ISOs?

Lots of great controls in this camera, super user friendly and customizable, one of the best handling cameras I have ever used. Noise is suprisingly low even to 3200 ISO. Files are not any better than the 12 MP XSi though. In fact upsized Rebel files are just as good as natuve 7D files in terms of detail. So this camera is a screaming performer but with files not really any better than Canon's entry level camera.
This camera sounds great Tom! Congrats with it. I just wonder how actual iso performance is with 18MP on a 1.6x crop sensor? I did not make a study out of it but other sources said is was disappointing. Would be interested in your experiences. All the new developments look very promissing for the long awaited 1dmk4, as long as they keep it a 1.3x crop camera!

Tom, congrats on the new toy.
I have been using my 7D for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, the weather has not been conducive to good subjects, so I have only done test images of boring stuff around the house. I find it to be great. I did the lens calibration and found it made a difference on 80% of my lenses.
The ISO up to 1600 is outstanding. Now, I am not speaking of pixel peeping at 100% in unprocessed files. I am speaking about processing the files for print using my usual post processing flow. I do believe I can get acceptable results at ISO 3200, but obviously not perfect.
Re the AF, I have found it to be great! I know there are those on the various forums that have made images of birds in flight where the bird is about 5% of the frame and complained that the camera lost focus to a busy BG. Well at least the way I shoot, this is unrealistic. I am happy and think it is a huge step up from the 40D my wife and I have been using the past 2 years.
Tom, how is the IQ, focusing speed, and focus tracking with the 7D + EF 400mm f/2.8L I.S. lens combo? Also with the TCs on the lens? Looks like I have another body to consider. Thanks.
