There was some good color in the Dixie National Forest (Utah) the last week of September. If you drive from Cedar City (about two hours from Las Vegas) towards Cedar Breaks National Monument there are vast expanses of aspens and spruce. Unfortunately, all of the large mature spruce trees died in the 1990's of a beetle infestation, so most of the panoramic vistas of color are filled with dead spruce trees. Lots of isolated fabulous aspen groves though. Here is one taken on September 28 2009. I uploaded more Utah autumn photos to my webpage at:
Man, those are some beautiful aspens! I love the color framing the elegant trunks. The sharpening looks a little heavy handed and high radius, otherwise really beautiful. I'll have to keep that area in mind for the future!

Lovely, Tony! I'm glad that you found some good color in Colorado this fall.

Love the comp and color. I agree with Floris about what looks to be strong sharpening. Nice shot.

This is composed very nicely. I really enjoy the way that small cluster of trunks in the fg reaches up through the leaf canopy. I'd like to this with the exposure pull back a little, to see if more detail could be revealed in those leaves. Other than that, this more than works for me. Well seen!

It's a beauty, Tony, love all the tree trunks, and the yellow leaves ain't bad either too bad the Sierra didn't look like that this year, well done.
Thanks for the comments. I almost didn't post this photo because the low res file is so awful. I'd love it if you could check out the higher res version on my website and let me know if you still think it is oversharpened.
