Mono Lake, California.
This was the Saturday before the CANP meetup a few weeks ago. Just after the sun had set, there was a strong purple/magenta glow that covered the area. Even though there were more interesting things happening in the sky to the left, I really liked the form of the Sierras and craters in the background, and salt formations in the foreground.
Comments and critiques appreciated. Thanks for looking!
That's really nice, Mat! The craters are a nice part of the comp, and the glow really makes this work very well. I'm glad to see we are pretty much on the same page with the processing of images so far. That was a nice magenta sky, wasn't it?
Great composition! I was there that night and didn't get a photo I liked. Good job.
I would be interested in seeing what removing a bit of the magenta cast would do to the photo.

Well composed! There's a nice balance here in terms of shapes, colors and textures throughout.

Mat,
The purple looks great - isn't this from "Black Point" though? or near there? So I think that's the connection you're making anyway.
I think you did a great job of handling the conditions to be able to capture what is almost really a tranquil image. The lake surface says otherwise, but this came out very nice.

Great light Mat. I've never been to this part of Mono Lake. I'll have to check it out soon. This is really nice.

I'm thinking the purpleness was enhanced by a polarizer if I remember when shooting the scene? Or not. the colors are other worldly!

I think it did, Steve. But I sure as hell wasn't going to take the polarizer off with all that dust/salt blowing around :)
