Some of you were aware that I took my 8 y/o son Luke with me to the Eastern side for Fall Colors. And unfortunately he ended up dropping his new p&s (Canon SX110) into the water. Of course the first thing he did when he picked it up was turn it on and off several times - doh! I don't know if I have ever seen him so bummed out when it wouldn't work at all. :frown:

Well when Paul Duval heard his story he generously offered to donate one of his p&s cameras to the cause. What a big hearted guy! Thanks a lot Paul!

Then yesterday before going out to try and catch the sunset my wife decided to vacuum the dead camera out. We had also read that leaving it in rice for several weeks may help to remove some of the moisture. Well believe it it actually turned on and the LCD worked again. Of course the lens still has moisture in it which I don't know will ever go away. But the thing does at least take pictures.

Anyway the sunset was awesome at Point Lobos last night. What a great day for second chances. Here it is:

Tonight may repeat. But the clouds are getting thicker now. Although yesterday it did the same thing. Man, I love the Fall in Monterey.

Derek no wonder you love the fall in Monterey. Beautiful Sunset, wonderful colors.

That's why I love the winter in So Cal. The suns sets right in the Catalina Channel. Throw in a decent NW swell, ahhh heaven.

Very nice sky up there Derek. You can probably send that camera in to get the moisture out of the lens. My 24-105 dried pretty and works fine after a dunk n dry but I still just need to clean the glass a little so I don't get flare. Have tried leaving it in the oven for a day(or at least 8 hours) at 100 degrees that might get some more moisture out.

Nice pics, Derek. I dumped a P/S in the water couple of months back, pulled the battery and SD card and just let it sit for a couple of weeks and, Presto! it worked again, lens is clear and taking pics with no flare. I did buy a weather proof camera though, Olympus P/S, great little camera for my fishing trips. :jump:

Beautiful sunset Derek. It was a bummer when you mentioned your son's camera got dropped in the water - I know how disappointed he was, but it sure seemed like he handled it pretty well. Glad to hear though that the camera is somewhat functional again!

Look at it this way... he's one step closer to being a full fledged photographer. Every photographer worth there salt has lost or damaged a camera at least once in their life. Glad everything worked out.

Nice sunset by the way. They don't get much better than that.
