Into the Night
Here is a shot I got couple weekends ago down in Moab at the RMNP gathering. This was another night image I shot on Friday night at Mesa arch. This one is what I envisioned creating when I went out there and it is my first attempt at this. I shot about 8-10 shots from 30 min after the sunset until it got completely dark. I used about 5 of those images blended with layers and masks to create this one image. I would be curious to hear what others think.

Canon 5D MarkII
Canon 17-40mm f/4L @ 19mm
ISO 400 @ different shutter speeds for Arch
ISO 1600 @ 30 sec for night sky w/stars

Good exposure Eric. Those stars are pretty cool. Nice work.

Awesome! I love the colors, and desert ambiance. Makes me want to get out there soon.

I tried some long exposures when I was there in the spring but didn't come out with anything this good. Great work!

5DM2 chalk one up to that noise redux filter.... grrrrreat shot Eric, this really is a testament to this location, as it is always a sunrise spot.

I think what I like about this one the most is how natural it appears after all of your work on it.
Great job of capture and 'developing', Eric!

This is a really sweet image, Eric. It looks very natural and conveys the desert feel really well. Very well done!

Looks like a great job blending! I can imagine how hard that probably was, especially to make the sky gradient from the horizon match above the arch, without haloes.

Great look and feel. The only nit I have, is I expect the foreground to be just a tad lighter based on the lightness of the arch face, assuming the same illumination source and exposure.

Nice job.

Excellent shot, and just the right amount of light for balance. How did you keep the noise down?
Posted by Eric Vaughan on October 20, 2009 at 6:08 PM
Keeping noise down wasn't to hard, I used ISO 400 for most of the shots and only used ISO 1600 for couple of night shots. Little bit of noise reduction on the sky cleaned it right up. It still amazes me sometimes how clean the 5DII is, what great camera.

Not much to add ... this is sweet.
