On Saturday I had an hour to spare so sat in my garden hide (OK, it's a wendy house) to try for a picture or two. Managed a squirrel, GSW, chaffinch, woodmouse and a couple of these little chaps. The light was very harsh with strong sunlight coming through the trees creating hotspots around the feeders. This was one of a pair of nuthatches caught directly in a shaft of sunlight giving an almost spot-lit appearance and creating a very dark background. Some may not like the effect (I have a couple of others where the background is almost totally black) and of course there will be many who dislike the twig below the bird but on this occasion I quite like the effect of 'drawing a line under it'.

I like this, particularly the way the light fall on the face. Nice one.

Really nice, lovely background and the lighting works really well. I think I might be tempted to clone the twig out, I'm afraid, as it just keeps dragging my eye away from the bird.
