Backcountry Beaver
I took an early morning hike up Lundy Canyon on the Saturday of the CANP get together. I had just set up at the pond above the first falls when this beaver popped up right in front of me. Being the experienced wildlife photographer that I am, I zoomed in right away and pressed the cable release. The beaver heard the shutter, looked up at me, slapped the water with its tail and took off. I was shooting in live view, mirror up, manual mode, f18 @ 1.3s. The shot was overexposed, and the beaver moved its head slightly during the 1.3s exposure. This was the only shot I got.
Thanks,
Rudy

Rudy,

I liken this to the Loch Ness monster... in all the years I've been visiting the beaver ponds in Lundy Canyon, I've never actually seen a beaver. Great catch!

Actually this makes a great habitat/environment image with a portion of the den showing in the LLC.

Had I known about the beaver I would of went with you Rudy. Just like Lon is saying I haven't seen seen one either nor a picture of one in the sierra. Excellent find.

Your lucky to even see one. In Northern Maine you see countless beaver dams and lodges, yet I have only see a few beavers in all my years of camping there. They don't like humans or anything that is threatening to them. To see one and even have the time to catch a quick snap shot of it is pretty lucky.

I have seen lots of them up on the Trinity river near Weaverville, but in many trips to the Lundy area, never one. Nice reactions and capture!!!

I was just at Lundy two weeks ago. I saw the beaver lodge, but no beaver. I didn't find any fall colors either.

About 5 years ago, a beaver had dammed Alder creek near Truckee. We went out to see the beaver at dusk and were successful on multiple occasions at viewing an entire family. There have been beaver at a number of sites in the Truckee area.

I have numerous photos, but a beaver is not a beautiful creature to hang on my wall.

Sounds like he wasn't impressed with your tripod. If you had one of those old wooden one's you probably would have gotten a different reaction.

Nice catch... I've only seen one beaver, but that was in the Southern Sierra and a lot farther away.
