Tetons - Yellowstone
To break in my new Mark II, I spent a couple days up at the Tetons, and managed to get up to Yellowstone for one day. Conditions werent terrific, but it was nice beating the summer crowds. I busted a polarizer (if you ever have done that when its on your lens--you know what happens!) and that cut my trip a day or two short, but it was worthwhile. Here's Grand Teton-Owens.

#2 Went to String Lake for sunrise, things looked great to the east.

#3 Unfortunately, the sun angle and some thin mid clouds kind of spoiled the view to the west, but it was still pretty.

#4 Leigh lake the previous day when i was scouting things out.

Great stuff Stan. Hope to see more. Sorry about my Grand Teton NP geekness coming out but in the first pic you have Teewinot on the left with Grand Teton and Mt Owen on the right.

I stand corrected, Doug, good thing i didnt attempt the Owen-Spaulding route, might have climbed the wrong mountain!

I love the colors in the pool on #5. Looks more like the tropics than Yellowstone!

4 is my favorite Stan b/c the water looks like the Bahamas. Wouldn't more of us live in the Bahamas if there were huge mountains there?

I like your String Lake shot Stan. The snow on the peaks is a great addition. Looks like the trees have been thinned out since I was there last. I had my 5d mark 2 just for a couple of weeks, opened the rear door of my truck and guess what rolled out right onto the pavement? I had the 17-40mm lens on it with Tiffen 812 filter. The filter saved the lens and thank God the camera still works with a few scratches. Nice photos.

Tough break with the filter Stan. Hopefully the repair/replacement will not set you back too much.

While the lighting may have not been perfect, you did a good job. Like the light on the mountains in 1 and 4 and your compositions on all of them are really good like always.

Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant collection, Stan!

#''s 1, 2 & 5 are great!
What a way to break in a new camera!
Aside from exceptional resolution, I am totally hooked on using Live View with the DOF preview in order to get everything in the image nice and sharp. A real revelation!

Excellent shots from an epic location. I'm liking 5 the best, too, but they are all keepers. The sat looks a little strong in #2, but it's your shot.

nice shots! Think that first one is my favorite. Hope to get down there this winter myself.

Really love the colors in #5, the clarity of the water, and the uniqueness of the location. I don't believe I've seen any photos of Imperial Geyser before. Where is the trailhead?

Fantastic work, Stan. Composition, color-all right on. :toast:

Stan,

This is an awesome series. I especially like #s 2 + 4. How are you liking the Mark II?
Posted by Paul Wegemann on October 22, 2009 at 3:18 PM
All nice Stan, but I really like #5. Looks like you had a great trip.

Thanks folks!
Don--the trailhead is the same for Fairy Falls, near Midway Basin.
Justin--i really like it, but already ive figured out that the extra pixels dont equate to sharper photos! I will really have to worry more about DOF, for whatever reason im having some difficulties compared to my 5D--but ill figure it out!

Love the shots Stan, I'm insanely jealous of you driving to Yellowstone. (I live in Atlanta!) I like the String Lake image too, but the Leigh Lake shot makes me want to wade in the water!
