This is the Crabtree Falls in NC off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was taken last Tuesday (10/13). I intentionally set the f-stop to a very small aperature (f25) to get the sunburst effect through the trees. Even though I used a GND when shooting I had to add a 1.7 stop gradient in Lightroom to darken the trees above the falls. They were very washed out.
Very nice sunburst Richard. Ain't LR great with the GND filter :)
How do you look directly at the sun thru the lens to get that effect without hurting your eyes ?
Thanks

The wind was blowing the leaves in front of the sun so it wasn't a constant blinding light. The leaves and the GND turned it down enough that I could compose the shot. I took several shots and picked the one where the sun was shining through just enough.

Nice! I like the sunstar - it definitely adds an extra element of interest to the image. I'd be tempted to clone some of the flare left of the sunstar, but that just might be me.
