Canyonlands
October was my first trip to Southeastern Utah and, man, I fell in love with the place....cant wait to get back. A person can see photograph after photograph of the these places, but on the first experience of stepping up to an overlook like this you know you really weren't prepared.
Any CC is appreciatd and thats for looking.

This is a beautiful photo Joe, my only nit is that both the levels and saturation appear a bit too strong, and seem to give this photo a slight posterization effect. I wasn't here though so maybe this is exactly what the scene looked like.

Fantastic vista. I'd have to agree with Bryan about the saturation and levels issue though. With a little bit of work though I think this would be great.

Nice combination of light and shadows elevates this above most I see from here.

Remember that many adjustments (Levels, Curves, etc.) in PS increase saturation without 'telling' you.
By doing these adjustments on a separate layer, then choosing the 'luminosity' blending mode rather then 'normal', this won't happen.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful- what else can I say. I love it. The com is right on. I would love to see this made into a mural.

You have a really good composition here. Follow Bryan's and John's suggestions and repost. I will be interesting to compare results.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I do sometimes get carried away in the saturation dept and will go back and rework this image.
John, thanks for your tip about the luminosity blending mode.....with the great pano tip you gave me and this one Ive started a "John's tip" notebook on the side....it is appreciated. Thanks,

I too like the comp and light, expecially the mixed cloud shadows. Minor adjustments and print it huge!

Very nice Joe. I just dropped in from CSNP in preparation for an upcoming trip to UT. If I might ask, which overlook?

Hey Larry,
This was shot around 8 or 9 AM at the Green River Overlook in Canyonlands. A cold front had just come through and the clouds were breaking making an interesting pattern on the landscape. Wind blows pretty stiff up there....never let go of your tripod.
Funny you should post from CSNP. Im going to the Ozarks Sunday to see if I can find any color.....looks like area around Petit Jean is still good but I wanted to go up around the Buffalo region.....did all the leaves get blow off? Im from Texas and it is about 400 mile trip for me. Thanks for your comments.

I never get tired of this view. Personally, I like the strong saturation. It gives the image a painterly look.

Hi Joe,

This weekend should be real nice in the Buffalo river area, maybe not everywhere but there should be location that are still colorful. Try Lost Valley and Steele Creek areas. Watch out for the elk.

Kind of wish I wasn't leaving for UT. (not really, first trip to UT).
