I'm a little on the fence about this one, because the light at sunrise that I was hoping for never appeared. But I feel like my gallery is missing a Mono Lake shot. Anyway, I'm looking to see if this image has any immediate emotional impact on you.
I was trying to demonstrate the repeating patterns of the tufa and a the clouds... the soft light might actually help that effect.
Thanks for looking!

The lighting wasn't dramatic that morning but there were some subtle moments that really looked great. The side lighting on the tufa is nice. Before I mention wether it has the impact you are looking for it would be nice to see what you liked from that morning.

Mat,
Well, if you must have a Mono image in your portfolio, this one is pretty nice. Not dramatic, but I think captures the Tufa well. The two sets of formations separated by their reflections makes for a nice comp too. My only suggestion would be to crop slightly in from the right to provide almost equal spacing of the tufa formation out in the lake - if that makes sense.

Matt,
A nice image, with soft light and a .....aww heck no immeadiate emotional impact. I think you self answered you own question by stating you "need" a Mono image for your gallery. You are capable of much better than this particular image, which while nice and technically well done it is not I would guess among your top images.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Sometimes it helps if other people tell me what I already know :)

I think the light itself is good enough because it is a semi-high key effect but the foreground is pretty boring in my opinion.
Matt, the composition is great. The light isn't bad, just not the impact you wanted. I'm wondering what I would have done with these conditions??? As Lon said, its a nice rendition of the Tufa towers. Best Regards.

It's always interesting to hear others thoughts about an image. For me the colors, light and subject matter are all there... it's just the composition that I find to be the weak link. Cropping a bit off the right as Lon suggested does give a better balance I think, but it is still a bit too static for my tastes... and maybe for your portfolio. That's my initial reaction.
