Twin Falls of Richland Saturday
Here is the best my feeble skills can do. After an epic trip starting at 0700 with 34 degree temps(boy it felt good though)and getting to the falls about 1100 I was already tired. Lets just say that almost all the marker tape is gone and so I had to get myself and a buddy down to the falls. I can see why Tim E. suggests coming down that last big side drainage into Long Devils Fork. I dropped down into Long Devils Fork about 100 yards above the falls. Quite the bit of steepness, eh? Then I spent about 20 minutes figuring out how to get to below the falls. A pop up the bluff on the left of the falls(don't miss the GeoCache box everyone;)and there was the nice little dropdown to the falls. Of course there was not a cloud in the sky so I had to deal with the worst lighting. And of course the color is almost all gone in this low area. Even so my VariND Duo filter let me come away with a few usable images. After about an hour it was time to climb UP the dang hill above the bluff. After about 20 of the hardest minutes in my life ever we are on the old logging road again. It was almost 2:30 when we got back to the truck at the spot above the cemetary right next to Iceledo Gap.
I turned around an older couple who were starting their trip in about 2 pm with nothing but their nice casual clothes on. They seemed to be moving very slow and on talking with them I learned that the wife had had a knee replaced in the last year and a broken upper arm more recently. I gave them directions to the Triple Falls over by the Boy Scout Camp Orr and they seemed very happy. And just for Aaron S.-we went to the Ozark Cafe and I had the chicken fried chicken/potatoes n gravy/green beans/sweet tea. No time for a nap on this trip and only some dried strawberries and almonds for a snack on the trail.

even for full sun this shot isn't too bad. This is a nice place to see even if the sun does come out. I like your comp here too

Bob, this is a nice composition. If the light would have been more cooperative, it could even be better (hint: go back!).

As far as the food... We went to Ozark Cafe for the first time during our little trip and went back 2 more times within 2 1/2 days! Onion ring burger with green beans and $.50 coffee, chicken breast and mashed potatoes and salad bar, and finally a grilled turkey sandwich with raspberry sauce. My new favorite restaurant!!!

You just can't beat the Ozark Cafe. I have fallen in love with that Chicken fried steak sandwich.

Glad to hear you made it out in one piece Bob! Too bad on the lighting, but maybe next year?? I like the way you framed it and the foreground looks great...Just wish that sun wasn't so dang bright, huh?

Man Bob if only the light had been better. That's still alot of water coming down the falls. Glad you made it in and out safely.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I continue to STRUGGLE with sharpness throughout the image. I seem to get a foreground or a background sharp but not the whole image.

I have been using Liveview to mag up and check sharpness via the DOF but the light is so bad and I have to use so much CPL and ND that the DOF preview is useless. Does anyone else go thru the process by starting without a filter on and getting comp/focus that way and then adding the filters and working out the exposure. This is getting pretty frustrating for this ole boy!
