One of my favorite areas to photograph is the Painted Hills in the John Day Fossil Beds near Mitchell, Oregon. Early snows make the colors and contours of these geologic hills really stand out.

Beatiful Marcy! I don't think I've ever seen a snow scene here. Definately a place I'd like to visit.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for the comments - I'd never photographed the painted hills with snow on them before, either - it really made the contours stand out!

Marcy,
Very nice image. I would like to see a bit less snow so the colors of the hills show more. Also I might be inclined to crop it a bit from from the top to omit the sky. IMHO of course!
Oh, very nice! The snow really does concentrate attention on the lay of the land. Enough color shows through to make this look artistic with subtle beauty. Definitely a different take on this landscape. I like it.

Hi Erik
thanks for your comments! I really like how the snow makes such a watercolor effect on the landscape (plus I have a lot of images of the hills without snow) but I have thought about boosting the color a bit to make the reds stand out. I did that with another of the snow images and it really turned out nice so may try it with this and see what happens. Also may try your suggestion of cropping the sky out since it really was a grey day. :)
Thanks again,
..Marcy

Hi Catherine,
Thanks so much for the comments. The snow does give the hills a completely different look, doesn't it?
