Canon 7D
In response to my early post, a few issues about the new cameras ability to operate at higher ISO's and poor lighting. Here's a shot from a series I'm doing for a trapeze school. It was shot with the new 24mm F/1.4. ISO 1000, 1/500, F/2.8 hand held.. on while on a mezzanine near the artists. I wanted to show the arm strengh and team work involved in their art. (it was a 38mm using the 1.6)

I'll be posting a few more later, working with the 7d with the 200 F/2. This new focusing system is exceptional.........IMHO

Woof. That's a seriously good sports shooters rig!

Tom,

I received my 7D a few days ago. I am in the Smokies now using it mostly for wildlife. This is a great camera!
Perfect for sports and wildlife... but capable to any task.

Tom,

I too picked up a 7D a week ago. It does exceptionally well with wildlife/sports shots. Right now, I'm in the process of finding the right noise reduction settings that work best for long exposure landscape work. From what I'm reading, it seems that turning off the noise reduction results in the sharpest detail. Then, the noise just has to be dealt with using post processing noise reduction software.

Just wondering if you or anyone has had the chance to experiment with shots taken with and without the noise reduction and compared the results.

Cheers,
Mike

Mike,
I did take the above shot with the noise reduction turned off, and used "define" to address the noise issue in a few areas.....................
I didnt see a lot of difference with it on,....... or off............or maybe its just my eyes...........

Thanks Tom - your results are impressive. I have another friend who did the same type of processing with football shots at night, and his results were just superb. No doubt Define does a great job.

I have since seen some photos using the in camera noise reduction. It does work, but some detail is lost. Seems that you've got the right approach here.

I've been using the 7D for about a week now. I'm particularly interested in evaluating it for bird photography. Great fun. Several posts in the Avian Gallery. The latest may be of most interest: http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=vp&pr=133084&CGISESSID=ebdbf7ac4c02aa62b66b54d6820790c8&u=16378
Also, tried initiating the topic of noise reduction and workflow for the 7D in the Digital Imaging Forum:

Conclusion so far: Camera will enable good, possibly excellent, images at high iso settings. I've used up to iso 4000 to date with encouraging results.
