I went out to Brownsea Island on Sunday as they will shortly close for the winter and I wanted a shot of a Red Squirrel. Long story short, I went into the hide overlooking the shallow harbour area and never moved for the rest of the day. Best wader action I've seen this year (still haven't been to Norfolk). I never got a shot of the squirrels...

Canon 7D, 400mm DO IS, 1.4x, 1/800th, f5.6.

Yup I thought the bill was far too thin for a regular redshank as well

Thanks everyone.

The only downside to this location is the thick black ooze (which is why the birds are there). Everytime they lift a foot or beak out of the water it is covered in thick black gloop.

It was a fun test for the 7d though and a few birds I had not seen too often before.

I see DP Review are today reporting a problem with the 7D in multishot mode - transfer of edge of image between frames. Good to see Canon maintaining their current reputation of Beta testing their new products by the general public.......
