While traveling from Guinea, West Africa I, being a bookaholic, bought a copy of September/October 2009 "Digital PhotoPro" at Paris Airport. While paging through it I came cross a very interesting "camera carrier harness". I it is called a "CottonCarrier".
My question. Does anybody here know of it and is anyone using it?
I am a member of the Carolina Nature Photographers Assoc. and one of our members has the Cotton Carrier and demonstrated it for us. It is a great piece of equipment which allows you to carry two cameras and your don't have them flopping around and banging up against anything. He said it takes a lot of strain off the neck and your cameras are easily accessible without having to dig through your camera bag. The Cotton Carrier is a very well made item. I am thinking of purchasing one too.

I had never heard of it before, so I googled it and watched the demonstration video. I have Arca-Swiss style QR plates on my bodies and almost always use a tripod. The Cotton Carrier doesn't seem to be compatible with the way I use a camera. Nifty idea for hand-holders.

One of my clients picked up one for his tour with me. I think Buck is right on, great for hand-holders but not for tripod...ers. (Is that a word?).
If I remember correctly, the Cotton Carrier plate (mounted on your tripod socket at the base of the camera), has a tripod socket of its own - but I think it would severely weaken the secure fit of any arca-swiss style plate, or L-bracket. It worked great on board the boat we chartered (because everything was hand held), allowing him to easily carry 2 cameras. I don't know that I could find a use for it in my style of shooting though, not enough to warrant the cost.
I just bought the Cotton Carrier for Christmas and have used it on a couple of hikes. I combined it with the camdaptor and the manfrotto quick release plate and you can quickly pop it loose from the cotton carrier fixture and pop it on your manfrotto equipped tripod and you're set. You definitely need to use the loc-tite as they recommend, as the twisting motion constantly loosens the adaptor. I use one body with the 70-200, and another with the 24-105 on canon bodies and I love having both hands free while hiking and having quick access to both cameras. I love it so far!
