New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming in a week-trip report
I spent a week on the road earlier this month. Had the week of Columbus Day off and when othe rplans fell through decided to drive to Wyoming.

Many froks here seemed to be lamenting the status of the fall color this season, but i had the days and wanted to get out so away I went.

Got a chance to photograph the volcano country around Mt. Capulin at dawn. It was one of those areas I had always driven though in a hurry and never lingered at. Now I had the time and I caught a great dawn there. Drove up through Red River and caught some nice colors in the New Mexico high country. Followed the San Luis Valley to the Great Sand Dunes. Got beat by the wind but hiked up into the hills and got a few nice ones including the image top. BTW- nice exhibit some of y'all have up there. Alot of folks were admiring them.

When I found I was too late to get to the Snowys in southern Wyoming I made for Maroon Bells and got there in a blizzard. Thus I had the whole place to myself. Drove out theough the White and Yampa River country into Wyoming and spent a few days in the Sierra Madre. Very impressed with the area. Finally made it to RMNP for a day on the way home.

You can see some of my images on my blog (link below) and I'll be updating it with more images over the next few weeks.

Oh man, that foggy Capulin shot is AMAZING!

A really nice collection of work but as Todd said, that shot of Capulin is amazing. It's probably one of the best I've seen and you've inspired me to investigate that area.

This one and the Capulin shot are fantastic! I drive by there about twice a year when I go to Amarillo to visit my daughter. I stop whenever the conditions are good, but I have never seen anything like this.

Thanks.

Capulin is a neat mountain in its own right, but there are several other lone mountains of volcanic origin there also. From Cowtown its about 450 miles so while I could do a three day weekend there, if I have a three day weekend and I was driving 450 miles, I'd probably go to the Guadalupes or Big Bend. So it was one of those areas I had only seen passing through in the middle of the day.

But with a week I times it to enjoy the dawn there and I was glad I did.

My real goal had been to spend 3-4 days in Wyoming up around Medicine Bow Peak, but The pass closed the day I left. That meant I replanned the trip in the middle of it. So instead of driving north from the Dunes to the Snowys I went west to the Maroon Bells. I was too late for the color north of the Dunes, but still managed to find some interesting areas and got lucky with a few snow storms to get a nice image here or there.

Lots of sweet shots on your site. I like the one you posted here, and I REALLY like the Mt. Capulin fog shot. Good work!
