Lever Release Clamps

I have been thinking of upgrading my ball head and I was looking at the RRS BH-55.

I am torn about going to the lever-release clamp. I have always used a screw-in clamp.

Anyone want to try and convince me one way or the other? I'd appreciate the feedback. The lever-release clamp is $40 more, so it isn't just whether they are equally good, but, is the lever clamp actually better?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I got my RRS BH-55 with the lever release clamp, as well as an extra lever clamp to attach to a very old Leitz ball head. They work fine. I use the BH-55 with a Sidekick most of the time with no problems.

The only thing that is sometimes inconvenient is when I mount a camera directly on one of the clamps - I need to keep the lever on the lens side of the body or else it sticks back too far for comfortable viewing through the finder.

I use the BH-55 with the lever lock and LOVE it. Quick, easy, and very secure. Unlike the screw clamps you can tell with just a glance if it's secure and ready to go. I think you'll be very happy with it.

That clamp will change your life for the better! And more so if you use their L brackets. Just do it!!

Ditto all the above. No worries over tightness or security. I have RRS lever clamps on both BH-55 with sidekick and on a Kirk BH-1 for lighter loads. Love them and real timesavers especially when using L-brackets on bodies with short lenses and switching from horizontal to vertical orientation.
