Pete,

You have a lot to answer for  . I have been toying with getting the 500mm for around 2 years now......indecisive is an understatement. You mentioning Ian reminded me that I got a good deal on my 100-400mm a few years ago....... I've just spent the retirement fund on a 500mm to be shipped next week.

Now does anyone know someone who wants to buy a 400mm DO IS in good cond.??
