Always turn around...

Acting on an old axiom I learned when first starting my photography quest, I went up to the overlook west of Mather Lodge on Petit Jean Saturday night to shoot the "spectacular" sunset that I just knew was going to happen. Well, needless to say, the sunset fizzled. Just before I left I remembered that old axiom that says, "If the shot isn't where you're looking, just turn around." That's when I saw this shot as I looked across the valley from the overlook.

Ain't Arkansas beautiful?!?!

Those are some wise words! Or simply follow the light. Looks good. Seems a bit over saturated on my screen. I know that photobucket has issues with getting the levels just right.

A bunch of us(CSNP) were along the bluffline that you are shooting into. The sunset wasn't as good as the sunrise that happened the next morning, but I didn't think it was all that bad.

My shot of the (fizzled) sunset is a combination of three shots to get the foreground tree, the valley, and the sun all on the same playing field. And yes I know, the foreground tree is out of focus. I didn't quite nail it. Oooops!

A very pretty scene, David, but I have to agree with Mike about the saturation - should be an easy fix.

Mike & Bill, this saturation thing is a real bugaboo. My last post went totally flat when I went through Photobucket so I went back and bumped up the saturation about 10 points and it looked fine. This time I went ahead and bumped it up before posting and it's apparently too much!

I've gone back and decreased the saturation a bit so hopefully that will help.

Here's a solution--you all are welcome to stop by my office and see the print. It looks great!

I will say this, however--this shot was taken in late evening light just before the sun went below the horizon. As a result the saturation level was fairly high to begin with which was what attracted me to the scene to begin with.

Regardless, it was a beautiful scene that really highlighted the interspersed color across the valley.

Best to all.
