Little Grebe
Was out to photograph Water Voles but unfortunately the only ones that appeared close to the bank were while I has having a rendezvous with a rather unsavoury character in the carpark. Should know better at my age:biggrin: Mind you he looked ever so cute in his camo dungarees

Nice low level viewpoint. considering the low light and highish iso the exposure looks good on my monitor. Perhaps a tad of clockwise rotation?

I think Tony is right, give this a clockwise rotation of 2-3 degrees and you have a great shot.

Well Maggie, I think this shot more than makes up for a lack of Water voles. Lovely birds, cute photo! Well done.
Regards,
Paul. :wavey:

Thanks Tony and David. Don't know if this is better. I'm not too good at rotation.

Well its not paddling up hill anymore

Bit too close on the LHS apart from that not too bad

I'd love to get a shot of one of these and would be very happy indeed to have this one! Rotation in this image should be straightforward because there is a good catchlight reflection. Not sure if you're using photoshop, but if you are, you just use the ruler tool to draw a line between the two, then image, rotate, arbitrary - magic! Problem is there is often very little in the way of a reference point. 2nd post looks level to my eye though.

Hi Maggie,

Nice shot! The second one looks much better, although agree a little tight now on the left, impossible aren't we!

Cheers,

Lewis.

Fancy calling Graham unsavoury

Repost looks less drunk.

In NX2 just use the see-saw tool (between rotate and crop tools) and draw a straight line between the eye of the Grebe and the eye in the reflection - it does the cropping for you too darling

I agree, the second post is better, but then it gets a bit tight on the left. A really nice intimate image all the same

Hi Maggie

Very nice - a tad close to the LH side but nice complimentary colours!

Nice work Maggie, these are great little characters and you've captured this one very well. Good detail and nice POV. Rotation makes for a stronger image.

Thanks everyone for your comments and helpful tips. I did use the straightening tool in NX2 but it seemed to also crop a bit off the left of the image. Technology - but I'm getting there.

Andy I certainly wasn't referring to Graham as unsavoury - quite the opposite in fact  You did look a sexy b****r in your camo hotpants though. Don't know how I kept my hands off you. Just as well I have strong willpower darling
