Euro lynx (C)
Ploughing through my back-log of processing nicely at the minute: this is a favourite from this week's efforts.

C&C welcome.

Cheers,
Chris

Great pose - the attitude of the head is lovely. I've been ruminating over the patch of snow down the side of the trunk though - I had to really contemplate over this one - at first I felt the snow was a distraction - but after a while I changed my mind and I realized I really like the way the lynx is emerging from it/almost part of it. The way the white base of the image merges with the vertical snow against the trunk allows the background and main subject to really blend together in a way that a stark head emerging from round the tree trunk would not have done. The tapering of the snow following the black line on the fur plays a big part in making it work. Subtle - but very very nicely done.

Really ncie, Chris. I've recently spent some time tracking these animals in Poland. Issues surrounding re-introductions interest me. In one of your previous posts you mentioned conservation photography. Although this particular image does not show an interation it still portrays a beautiful animal in a habitat. Is this image going to become an infrequent nostalgia?

Controlled conditions or wild - it doesn't matter - none of the impact or meaning is lost. The Lynx is a beautiful animal.

The treatment is fantastic too. Lynx are quite tall animals and the space under the head gives a sense of this.

What a splendid portrait of this fantastic creature, although a captive this just illustrates the illusiveness and rarity.... the intensity in the eyes make it.

Good to meet the other day although briefly.

Thank you for your feedback.

The animal and weather conditions made it hard to fail really. It was such a privilage to obverse this animal as well as photograph it.

Chris J: For me, the lynx is a better option for re-introduction to the UK than the wolf because of its different ecology and behaviour. Just as important, though, is the lower level of misconception and sensationalism surrounding this species.

Phil: Yes, good to meet, hope you enjoyed day two.

Cheers,
Chris
