I saw this article last week in the Post, and it looks like an interesting hike. Has anyone been there, and if so, what are the photo ops (I'm starting some planning for next spring...)

I'd be willing to bet Jack Brauer would know something about it since he lives in the area.

That's actually a pretty good article; the author is right, Weehawken is one of the less visited trails in the area.

During the lower half of the trail, there's good photo opps of aspens set against rugged mountain backdrops. Here's one from the spring.

Pines too, in the winter.

If you're going for a dayhike, I'd recommend going to Alpine Mine, where there's some of the more impressive views of the area, from the Amphitheater above Ouray, all the way up the rugged lower portion of Camp Bird Road, including the entire Hayden massif.

Here's a shot of the Weehawken valley around the area where the trail peters out. The photo from the article is from much higher up on the tundra. I haven't been up there, but I'm sure I'll go sooner or later. The author also mentions the northern couloir on Potosi Peak, which instantly earned my respect... one of the premier descents around.

The Alpine Mine trail is an absolute must. The view of Ouray and surrounding mts. is supreme. The trail is steep all the way to the top. I climbed the whole trail with "charlie-horses " in both calves......got to the top and was truly rewarded with one of the most spectacular views ever.

You guys sure do have some nice mountain country. I lived in Colorado Springs for 3 years but wasn't into photography at the time. Real nice photos Jack.
