For those who don't read the Cloudland Journal, I wanted to let you know that we are beginning our fall slide program schedule this week. All programs are free and open to the public. This year I'll be showing two new programs - BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER and ARKANSAS WILDLIFE. The first program is tonight (Nov. 2nd) at 7pm in the Durand Center in Harrison, then tomorrow night (Nov. 3rd) at 7pm in Little Rock at the Little Rock Church, 10701 West Baseline Rd.. Other cities include Benton, Conway, Hot Springs Village, Russellville, Dover, North Little Rock, Clarksville, Ft. Smith, Fayetteville, Bentonville, Eureka Springs, and Springfield MO. All shows are free, but you can buy cheap books there if you like...

There are people who don't read the Cloudland Journal? Shame on them!

Tim,
I would wish to clarify that I have several of your books and they are not cheap! Low priced maybe but not cheap.

It is amazing to me sometimes to find out who actually does read the Journal. I'm going on 11.5 years with it now and started it soon after Al Gore invented the internet. Geeze I'm getting old.
Not cheap or lightweight - we just loaded another several tons of picture books into the warehouse a few weeks ago - that color ink is really heavy.
We've done several shows in Siloam Springs before (at the college and the art center) but don't have anything on the schedule right now. The venues there are smaller than what we normally do these days. Perhaps we'll get back again one of these years.
I'm just about to finish loading my car for the program tonight - it has taken me more than three hours to get everything together...

Sometimes I get a little behind on the Journal, like a couple of weeks ago when we had parent conferences after school, 9 weeks grades to finish, labs to set up, and so on.
Isn't this your first show in Dover? I wouldn't think there would be a place large enough to seat everyone...

We did Dover last year as part of their new photo class for seniors - they had their prints on display as a final project. We had the entire auditorium and it was full last year - I think the entire town was there it seemed like.
Just got back from the show tonight in Harrison. They had set up 350 seats and it was standing-room only so they brought out 50 more - nearly 400 folks. My wife is really sick today and could not go with me and so I brought in three people to replace her and that was just barely enough (she runs the sales tables). One of the highlights of the evening for me was when a ten-year-old girl who had asked to come to the show as her only birthday present (today was her birthday) came up to me and asked me to sign her program. I know a lot of folks preach gloom and doom for our younger generation but I think many of them will stand up and take up the torch and continue our fight to protect our precious natural resources - like I know this little girl will. That is one thing we can all do with our photography - inspire a new generation. Heck, for that matter, we can inspire our own generation.
By the way, on a totally unrelated note, I got a flurry of e-mails while I was at the program from folks telling me that a lady "jumped" off of Hawksbill Crag tonight. There was yet another search and rescue mission launched and I just passed the last of the forest service guys while on my way back to the cabin. Turns out it was a lady who got lost and she was found and was OK.

Thanks for posting this. I will let people know about these!

Holy cow, it has been like a meeting of Central States Nature Photographers for the past two nights at the Ft. Smith and Conway programs - I think at least half of the Arkansas folks from here have been there. (Kind of weird to meet the young guns who will be running me out of business, but I guess we all have to go someday!) THANKS to the crew last night for helping figure out the hum issue - hint, anytime you get a hum in your audio system, try getting rid of the ground prong on your plug.
One more show this week for me, tomorrow November 19th in North Little Rock, then we'll get a break until November 28th in Eureka Springs - that will begin a run of 9 programs in nine different towns in two weeks...

It's always good when the ground lifter works! I would have hated to break the ground prong off. The ground is there for a reason.
We enjoyed the show as always! It was a great turnout too. It just gets bigger and better each year just like your photos! I don't think any of us will be hurting your business any time soon.

I'll be just down the road in North Little Rock at 7pm tomorrow (Thursday the 19th). There will be lots of great photographers at this program - I only hope I can dodge all of the rotten fruit being tossed my way!

Just FYI for folks who are not Cloudland Journal readers and who could not make it to one of the programs this fall I have posted a low-res version of the Buffalo National River program online - it is an 89mb download and requires Quicktime on your computer, and it helps if you have a great sound system on your computer and turn it up loud. Not quite the same experience as viewing this in high-resolution on a 12-foot or wider projection screen with my big stereo system in a room full of people, but at least you can get an idea.
I'm not one to clog cyberspace with threads of endless "Merry Christmas" and all that, but this movie download is my way of wishing each and every one of you a delightful holiday season, and a great new year to come! (which will probably clog cyberspace much more, oh well...)
