Lamar Valley Yellowstone
The fall season is over in Yellowstone, in fact I think the park closed today. A little late but I ran across this image and thought I would post it. As you can see the aspens are in decline (dead aspen on the right) in the Northern Rockies as in many other places. There aren't that many aspens in Yellowstone to begin with so this is sad to see. There is a big bright spot though and that's the numerous 6-8 foot Lodgepole Pine that is growing like a jungle. Hopefully the aspens will hang on.

I like the comp and the colors.

Very nice, Dean! The contrast between trees and sky is awesome.

Nice image Dean. The stormy sky and light really brings it out.

Wonderful light on this scene! And the aspens are at peak color as well! The storm clouds, though, is what makes this work so well.

I like the warm bright color of the grass and the golden leaves against the cool and stormy sky. It's a great composition too.

As others have said, very nice. The warm colors are a good contrast to the storm in the background. Perhaps it is my monitor, but the sky above the trees is just drab gray. I would like a little more contrast to show some features in the clouds (if possible).

nice job Dean!

Very sweet, how you brought out of the blue of the clouds works nicely with the leaves.

This is a striking image, Dean. Great contrast, colors and composition. I'm seeing a range of tones in the sky in the backgrounds from blues through grays so AFAIC you're done processing this one. Thanks for sharing it.

Beautiful, Love that golden glow against those dark skies. :toast:

Really cool. I really like the blues of the clouds and the gold in the leaves. I don't know that I've even seen an aspen shot from Yellowstone before. Sad to see that SAD is affecting what few there are up there too.

This is an amazing photo. The tone is very nice. If there is one thing I would suggest, it would be to darken the clouds above the trees. To me, that would accentuate the trees a bit more. Thanks very much for posting.

Very nice capture of the last of the fall color in Yellowstone. It sure didn't last very long this year.

I have really enjoyed your Yellowstone photos recently. I especially like this one, too. The aspens really pop against the menacing sky.

Thanks all for your comments. Much appreciated. Momo, I did have another version of this where I darkened the sky but it took away the ethereal quality of the photo.
