Hi,
I went to Crater lake a few years ago but I didn't have a good camera with me although the weather was perfect.
I am hoping to go back but I really want to see it covered in snow. I understand the access is very limited during winter months.
So I would really appreciate any tips/help with planning this trip.
1. What months would be good to visit to make sure there is plenty of snow yet be able to access it without too much problem (I don't know if it helps but I have a 4x4 vehicle)
2. I will be in Klamath Falls in Feb. and I was hoping to drive a little more to Crater Lake. As I understand in Feb most roads would be closed. How far would I need to park to cross-country ski or snowshoe to the Crater?
3. Any valuable information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Aejandro

The last time I visited Crater Lake in winter was Feb 2004 before they reconstructed the parking area. There is only one way to the top in winter and the rim visitor center (not sure if it is open in winter). The snow banks are fairly high from the snow the plows moved, but you can snow shoe to the rim and then as far as you can go. It is maybe 200ft to the rim from the parking lot, but I am not sure anymore, since construction changed that area. Make sure you have snow shoes on, otherwise you WILL sink into the snow (it happend to me and it is not funny)
Hope this helps.

Hi Inge,
Thank you for the info. I saw you were there a few times and got some nice images. Hopefully I can make it; I certainly will need to do more research.
Thanks again,
