At the recent MWNP meeting at Pewit’s Nest I was lamenting the fact that chasing the fall colors had prevented me from visiting Crex this fall. When I returned home I checked the weather at it was rain all week. The next day the weather report changed indicated clearing late in the day and a clear sky the next day. I arrived at Crex early in the afternoon but there were few birds around and the day was overcast. Later in the afternoon I could see some clear sky in the western horizon. About an hour before sunset the late afternoon sun hit the meadows. The light was outstanding that evening and the next morning. It was my best two days of shooting in Crex which including the sighting of a Whooping Crane that was hanging out with some Sandhill Cranes.
Phil, great shot, glad you had a good trip. Love the Sandhills we don't have them around here so images like this are the next best thing. This would be a decent shot even without the Cranes. I can see why you like it here.

Hi Phil -
Great collection of photos. I particularly enjoyed your "ghost" photos - very creative and symbolic!

Phil,
The spacing of these birds and comp is exceptional. This image was no accident, You did a great job in every way. The 2 birds flying out of the image in the upper right corner is the icing on the cake! Good one Phil.

Very nice, Phil! The Trumpeter Swans at Sunrise is my favorite.
Excellent shot. I love the two birds in the URH corner. Amazing detail and lighting as well

I like this a lot, Phil. Great details and the light on the birds/trees is fantastic. I also think the two birds in flight at the URC are an added bonus, and I would be tempted to move them slightly to the left in Ps and then crop out the half in/half out cranes on the right. Well seen and well executed!
