IN which, i sandwich the Subway between two other shots
Had a great time at Zion, hiked the Sub Monday along with Guy S and Ron R. Colors were lousy at Zion this year, but the Left Fork had some decent yellows, specially in the mid afternoon light--of which this is an example. MY new MK II performed well, and GUy showed me how to use Live View
On a side not, met Michael Fatali (and his lovely wife) at his gallery after the hike--had a nice converstaion.

Here's the entrance to the Subway (another at ESS) which i found more interesting than the standard Fatali comp.

Heres one from N Kolob (Taylor Creek) on Sunday, great reflective light!
Lots more to process, should keep me busy a while!

I think ill add one more--since i just noticed that everyone is posting the same or similar comps of this cascade--so heres something a little different.

Glad you posted that last one. These are all great, but I really like the last one the most. Looks like a successful trip!

Holy cannoli!
+1 on the last one!

Stan,
Like the others, but, the third one is great. Looks like a fun trip...and productive.

Sorry,
That should be the forth one is my choice.

I agree..Number 4 is waaaay good!

Your take on the subway works well. I like the last one alot too. The reds in the Taylor Creek shot are great, but I'm not crazy about the bit of blue sky and the convergence of the trees.

MMmm. My favorite kind of subway sandwich--no lettuce, no onions, just pure goodness!!

Seems like you had a good time despite the lack of foliage color. I like both #1 and #4. Looks like the Kolob shot would be a nice place to revisit a little earlier when there are still leaves in the trees. Thanks for sharing this collection!

I like all of them Stan, but the first two are actually my favorites (why a I always the oddball?)

Number 4 is my pick. No matter how the shooting is the trip is always an adventure. I really like that area for exploring.

Also glad you posted #4...a unique take on an almost too photographed area.

Yeah, I like #4 for very much as well. Thanks for posting these.
I'm liking 1, 3, and 4 a lot! You are giving me MKII envy.

Hmmm ... the colors in the first Arch Angel Falls photo look pretty close to mine -- so either we both suck or we're both spot on -- I'll vote for the latter.
By "mid-afternoon light" do you literally mean mid-afternoon, which would have been about 2:45 MST on the day of your hike? I was there on the last day of daylight savings time (10/31). By around 2:00 MDT (1:00 MST) there were a lot of hot spots that had made their way down into the canyon downstream of the Subway. That's when I started to head back. I would not be surprised that, by mid-afternoon on the day you were there, the light in the canyon would be improved. But then you've got that hike back to the trailhead, which to me seemed much longer than the hike upstream, even considering the climb out of the canyon (although for me it was only about 1/2 hour longer). What time did you get back to the trailhead?

Hi Stan,
You came away with some sweet shots. I love the 3rd one, the light is beautiful! I think I like the close up version of the cascades better. Nice work.

Jim, yeah, actually it was closer to mid day, around 12:30 or so--i got back to the trailhead at around 4ish. I noticed the light went downhill fast after i got past the cascades. It was definitely much tougher going back, because the sunlight made it hard to see the stream floor, so you never knew where your feet were landing (i got mu foot lodged under a rock!). I actually took more of the trail on the way back, it was just easier to see.

Great collection here Stan, I'm loving #1 and #4
I was down in the subway that afternoon as well, I got in late and think I saw you guys on your way out.

Stan...great job!!! I like your take on this place... #3 is my favorite!! And #4 because it is composed so very well...

It was nice meeting up and talking with ya, Stan! A nice collection of shots here. It definitely makes the hike worth the while. As with the others I like you somewhat different take with the last one. I agree with you about the sun causing issues seeing the creek bottom. I stuck to the creek more than I should have and stumbled around a lot! My trekking poles probably saved you from having to call a rescue team in for me!! I just got back today so I'll slowly start to sort through my mountain of images.

Looks like you got some great shots Stan, very nice.

Love the color and detail in the first image. Really pops out!
