Brad, I've been following this story as well and think it is great!

Funny.Yesterday, I went to the Tallgrass Prairie in Oklahoma. They have a herd of over 2500 buffalo on, I believe he said 35,000 acres. They have had their annual roundup. One of the Nature Conservancy volunteers told us that one of the reasons they have the annual roundup is to separate some out to send to other places. He said about 500 will be sent out to make room for the calves that they expect in the spring.

Brad, what is the difference between the Konza areas and the Tallgrass area, if any. The Konza is quite a distance from your descripton of Tallgrass?

Larry,
Lots of info on both available. I will direct you to their respective website instead of me trying to go into detail here.
I just completed the 2009 Docent Training Program at Konza and have gained a new respect for the tallgrass prairies of the which the majority resides in the Kansas Flinthills. Only 4% of the original Tallgrass Prairie remain in the U.S. and the majority of that is right here in Kansas.
Konza is operated as a field research station by Kansas State University.
Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is just that, a preserve.
