Last Saturday I hiked out to the SE ridge of Joe Mills Mountain and set up shop for a very nice sunrise. Ive always been intrigued by the composition of Notchtop from the summit area Joe Mills but never really thought about the jagged SE ridge before. The headlamp hike was uneventful except for having to dig a tench from Two Rivers Lake to Joe Mills Mountain; the trail had been tracked but stopped at the lake. I did a short class 3 scramble and found this spot. The sharp granite provided some interesting foreground.

Sunrise was excellent, offering up different lighting for up to an hour. I moved around for about an hour too, getting many different perspectives with really nice light. Afterwords, I hiked up into Ptarmigan Glacier Basin. If you haven't been up in there, the perspective of Notchtop is classic.

Sweet shot, Kane. Knowing what you went through to get this makes it that much more special to me. Post some more!

I love the top of the Joe Mills and I always wandered what sunrise from there would give me so why not show the shots you are talking about, maybe this year I'll be building an igloo closer to this peak. This is nice shot and I bet the "hike/scramble " in the dark wasn't easy so hope you have more, it is really a stunning location. I love the symmetry of the rocks but the color is a little lacking for a killer sunrise. Maybe this would be more dramatic in B&W.

Good timing in the lighting. Nice work.

Thanks for the comments. I think the image looks like it needs sharpening. Must be the compression from the hyperlink. I just signed up for membership so now I won't need to hyperlink. I'll post another shot soon.

Wow what an unlikely perspective! I love that about your photography.

Did you crop this from a horizontal shot? I feel like I'd like to see a little bit more of the scene on the left side, which would help to emphasize the sharpness of the ridgeline you're on.
