I currently use a MacBook for my photo editing, but am looking to purchase a 24 inch external monitor. I am not really sure what is compatible with the MacBook other then the Apple Cinema Display monitor, but I am open to anything that will be better than me squinting at my 13 inch screen I have now.
In addition, I am looking for peoples' suggestions on what they feel is the best monitor out there for photo editing. Any information would be great. Thanks.

I am extremely happy with my Apple Cinema Display. I calibrate it every three months or so with a Spyder3Pro. My elderly Apple Studio, by contrast, is difficult to calibrate and calibration lasts only to the next power-up. There's a reason it's not made any more.

Thanks Jim.

I have an Eizo Flexscan S2031W - a great monitor. There's also a 24" version the S2431W. You might at least take a look at some reviews on that one. Eizo's are very well known for their photo editing qualities, and their expensive top line the "CG series" is amongst the best in the field. If you have a lot of mony, take a look at these ones too.
Just don't go for any TN panels - they are for gamers and movie watchers. S-PVA panels are the way to go.

Eizo are good. I ended up buying a LaCie 324 graphics monitor on eBay. I'm very happy with it, especially considering I bought it for less than $700.

Have a look at the NEC MultiSync monitors, they are extremely good price/quality

Another vote for NEC. I have the 2690Wuxi monitor. Very nice monitor. Take at look at Spectraview for monitor calibration with the NEC monitors.

I have an Apple Cinema Display 24" with my Macbook Pro. This display is designed to connect to the Apple mini-display port, magsafe power connecter, and USB port of current Mac laptops. Thus you don't have to have an additional power cord to your Macbook and you gain two more USB ports on the back of the display.
I am quite satisfied with the display color performance, you just have to get used to glossy display.

Another vote for NEC. I'm running the 2490WUXi with the Spectraview calibration software.

And yet another vote for the NEC 2490 w/SpectraView. I could not (and would not want to) ever have to "get used" to a glossy display.
