I took this in the rain, it is totally unedited apart from a crop. The second one has had twigs painted out. I would appreciate knowing how more experienced photographers would have dealt with this - perhaps binned both!!
Exposure Time = 1/250"

I am glad that you did not decide to bin them, Kim. I am not going to comment on your cloning skills, other than to say they are a lot better than mine if your second post started off similar to the first. I do think the second post could be improved using the shadows/highlights command or similar. The plumage on the back of the bird looks a little pale on my monitor, whilst the head looks a little contrasty. Use of this command could improve both.
The twigs on the first actually frame the Sparows head quite nicely Kim but I prefer the second. I agree with David that a touch of additional work could make the bird pop really nicely. Lovely background but a slight shame the rain has been lost from the right hand side.

Second for me Kim, the first would just be too much beyond my cloning capabilities. However if it were my only image of the species I'd keep it.

Tree Sparrows make great subjects and your second shot other than perhaps a bit big in the frame demonstrate that here. Unless you are a bit of a fanatic the first I would dump(personally)
