Posing Grouse
I do enjoy photographing Grouse (and often talk to them when nobody is in listening range). This one was kind enough to strike a nice pose against a good background without any fuss. Much as I like shots of them in the heather, you do not get to see those white booties which are a great feature

1D3 700mm ISO:200 1/500 sec @ f/5.6

Thanks for looking, all comments good or bad welcomed

Great pose & colours Simon and as you say, it's good to see their little white 'booties' Just came back from around your way this afternoon, nothing much, but am glad to still see/hear they are still around and not filling the freezer :jump:

Thanks Alan

Steve, its all a bit quiet around here at the moment. I'm seeing more Black Grouse than Red at present (which is not a bad thing really). Most birds have deserted the high ground so I'm working on the woodlands and the back garden now, at least until a few more short eared owls turn up

That is a superb grouse image Simon. I love the mixed colours of the background and the pose with one foot up on the rock. Almost a reversal of the old 'big game hunter' pics; I can just visualise him with a gun under his wing and a deerstalker on his head !

Very nice indeed and to get that one foot up pose was a real stroke of good fortune.

Nice, with the light just right, I like that it is on what I assume is a dry stone wall, a feature I do associate with your part of the country, a species I would love to add to my files.
