I recently discovered this Sea Cave, and I had been waiting for the tides to coincide with a visit to the coast to photograph it like this. I'll be honest and say that since finding this location, I had wanted to capture this very image - the cave and receding tide. After playing in the surf and getting soaked from waste down I had high hopes, but when I got home and viewed it was a bit disappointed (both in execution and conception). I thought I'd throw this out there and see if there is a consensus either way - please feel free to be critical. Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback.

Greg,
While I like the idea and the water flow, the cave looks a bit dwarfed - almost like a small mouse whole. Maybe it is the wide angle of view or something. That said it is interesting to look at with powerful lines. I'm just not sure this is what you had in mind.
Unique view, and cool concept Greg. I think this is missing light.. it's all flat. Perhaps bust out your compass and find out when the sun shines through that hole, if it ever does?
Cool sense of motion. I find if I crop the top a bit (2/3 of the rock), it give the illusion of the cave growing a bit. Good discovery.

Thanks for the comments.
Derek, interesting take on the cave seeming dwarfed. Never thought about it that way
Floris, I know what you mean about the light. This is a difficult location to photograph given its location, and even while standing there waiting for a wave I heard a crash then that swirling sound, before I knew it I was running away knee deep in waves I do have plans to head back with my compass sometime soon, but I also have a feeling that a lot of things have to come together to get a shot that really lights up
Harley, cool suggestion

I have to agree w/ Floris. This could be an amazing spot but it needs some interesting light. But congrats on a great find. I suspect it'll come together for you sooner or later!

This a great concept, Greg. I can see where you want to go with it. I agree with the other comments; especially Harley's, regarding a crop. Your persistence will pay off.
If I may suggest an alternative title: "Event Horizon"

Greg,
I really like this. Your effort in the surf I think paid off. The motion of the water really makes this a strong composition and I like the proportion of rock to water. My only nit/suggestion is to correct what appears to be a tilted horizon. It's interesting that considering the size of the hole in the rock, it somehow amplifies the slant. No perhaps it's technically level and that's just a wave on the other side making it look that way... but just an observation on my part.

I think if you return with the knowledge gained from this experience under better lighting this could make for quite a unique image. Some reflected light off a cloud deck would be just stunning. Nice find!

Wow...great sense of motion. Agree with Eric and others that capturing this under different lighting conditions would make for a great shot. Well done...
